April is Stress Awareness Month – a timely reminder that stress is something most of us experience, but don’t always talk about.
This year’s theme, #BeTheChange, encourages us not just to recognise stress, but to take action.
Stress isn’t “just in your head.” It can impact mental, physical and emotional health, and is linked to anxiety, depression and even heart disease.
In the UK:
- 74% of adults have felt overwhelmed by stress
- Over half of working days lost are linked to stress, anxiety and depression
- It’s reported more often than anxiety or depression in day-to-day life
Common signs can include fatigue, chest pain, difficulty breathing, digestive issues and trouble concentrating.
Starting the conversation is often the first step.
