The Challenge - HMP Elmley is the largest of the three prisons included in the Sheppey prison group. The other prisons that make up this group are HMP Swaleside and HMP Standford Hill. Elmley opened in 1992 and has a capacity of 1,252. Located on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, it is a category B/C prison, holding both sentenced and unsentenced adult males. Overcrowding continues to be a major problem for the establishment.
